What is Our City?
Our City is a project based in Portslade, but aims to unite the surrounding areas in a classic community-based way. There are many projects at work, helping and building the community we live in. These projects are often hidden from the public eye and, as a result, are never utilised to their full potential of uniting people from across the city.
Our City is a new tool for these projects, helping them connect with you. On this website, through social networking sites and through flyers – Our City will present these projects to the neighbouring towns and cities.
Our City will:
- Bring awareness of the projects that are already at work in our community.
- Help connect people to appropriate projects and social groups to eradicate loneliness and isolation from this city.
- Unite people of all ages and social groups, by bringing a new culture of valuing each and every individual.
- Make us proud of the city we live in. A city that believes in community. A city that favours lending a hand. A city that cares about each and every person, from the youngest to the oldest.
- To allow people to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
How can I get involved?
Visit the website, look at the projects and connect with them.
These projects have been custom made for the community we live in – so there is likely to be one you can come and be a part of. We desire to see you having fun and getting to know other people in the community.
Look at the projects page and find an age bracket or social group that is suitable to you and then come along. We’d love to meet you. Also consider your friends and family – as they may benefit from some of the projects too…
These projects are here for you to enjoy. So come along, bring some friends and have a good time in the way our community was meant to be. At an Our City project, you are always welcome.
Can I volunteer to help in a project?
Absolutely. We are always looking for volunteers to help support the projects and run them effectively. Please contact the project leaders, or visit our contact page, for further details on how to get involved.
